Things to bring to umrah for my moslem sisters - RiangRiaBlog

Assalaamualaikum... It's been a while since i last posted in this blog.. i admit, i'm not that diligent to immediately write after my new experience about anything unlike my other fellow bloggers (i envy you guys, seriously)

well in this blog i will not elaborate about my spiritual journey, nor will i post all my photos during my stay at the holy cities but rather i will just share what are the things that i bring (and unfortunately missed) when i went to umrah last month (yep, last month, and i just write it now.. true procrastinator here) my female moslem friends, stay tuned!

First of all, these are for your consideration :
1. duration of stay (usually determine from your tour package selection)
2. weather and season at Saudi Arabia (you can just browse it online or ask your tour agency)
3. your menstrual period (eventhough it's not "the time" bring several just in case

Those three will determine how many clothes you will bring..

now, these are my tips for what to bring to Saudi arabia, either for Umrah or for Hajj..

1. Organize your things (including underwear, hijab) and packed it per day. so everyday, you can just unpack one bulk of clothes without ruining others. true, it takes more place, but for me, it's more convenient. after you've packed, bring 1 extra set for emergency and bring it in your cabin bag.

2. Wear instant hijab during flight (or even on Umrah). this have made my life so much easier.

3. Always wear clothes that are "prayer-ready" i mean, you dont have to change into mukena or prayer clothes again. it means wearing an unrevealing and not transparent clothes.

4. Bring medium-sized bag with shoe bag inside that fits your sandals/shoes so when you go inside mosque, and you dont have to worry about your sandal being "borrowed" by anyone. bring empty bottle wherever you go, you can refill with zam-zam water and keep hydrated.

5. Always wear moisturizer cream first, and then sunblock cream everywhere you go. even in cold season, sister! do not underestimate that cold wind. Irritations often occurs, let's prevent them from happening.. also bring sunglasses to avoid extreme sunlight.

6. leave your valuable belongings in hotel (if there is a safebox, it is more recommended) only bring your ID (contains list of number for emergency, hotel, and tour agency name), shoe bag, adequate amount of money when you are going to the mosque, you are going for prayer, not shopping :)

Now, for the things to bring :

1. Modest clothes (i mean, really modest. it should be loose and cover all your body, recommended length until your knee and your wrist for top, or just wear loose long dress. please match the agenda and clothes. for example i would suggest in Rawdhah you use pants rather than long dress to avoid your dress stepped by anyone..material i will suggest cotton. it can warm you up during cold season and still cool during hot weather.. colour? you can choose for free, but for Umrah, i will suggest white or black, as these are the safest colour and modest colours for prayers. do not forget your hijab.. best when you cover down to your stomach for syar'i clothes. even better, you can go straight for prayer). most of your agenda from the tour agency is not the Umrah itself, but more on the visiting historical site.. so you can wear your colourful clothes, but keep in mind the modest clothes, ladies :)

2. Underwear and pantyliners (you do not need to bring disposable underwear, as those are not very comfortable. just bring your usual underwear, and wash them. weather in Saudi Arabia make clothes dry easily. i would suggest only washing your underwear, not your whole pack of clothes, as these will not dry up instantly.. ooorrr you can just use laundry services)

3. Sandals or comfortable shoes (i would prefer shoes for women, as it is more covering, as long as they are easy to wear.. i mean like slip on one-step-and-go kinda like shoes. anyway, you wont be wearing that inside Masjid Al-Harram or Nabawi Mosque.)

4. Socks (wear comfortable and fit socks so it doesnt slip away from your foot when you do your prayer. also, there is a special non-slip socks that helps when you do thawaf during hot weather on mid-day or afternoon where the floor can be hot also)

 5. Little scissors for Tahallul.. do not forget to insert it with your baggage, not your cabin bag.

6. sleeping clothes. you can just bring 3 for a 9 days trip. with requirement : you must shower before wearing them. you will not sleep much, though. maybe most of you will stay at the mosque praying all night :)

7. Travelling kit (shower cap, soap, shampoo, lotion, sewing kit, hair dryer. if your hotel does not provide them)

8. Jacket or scarf during flight or cold season.

9. Bring cash. better in real (riyal) or USD.. this will make your life easier.. place them in separate place and only bring as little as you need when you go to mosque.

10. Last but not least, medication. please consult your physician before doing the trip, and bring all your medical needs.. always keep them close to you (during flight, bring cabin-friendly-pack)

Hope this helps.. and hopefully i did not miss anything.. i hope all of us can be given rahmat, rizqi and hidayah to meet the baitullah again...Cheers! Wassalaamualaikum...
